Amelia Island Plantation
Amelia Island, Florida

Amelia Island Plantation, FL
This carefully preserved island landmark has earned national acclaim
as a luxury resort while building a private community of discerning residents.

Description

Amelia Island Plantation covers 1,350 secluded acres between the beaches of the Atlantic and the tidal marshes of  the Intracoastal Waterway. Only 29 miles from Jacksonville International Airport, it was founded in 1971 on a proactive environmentalist vision and still honors that commitment.

The resort has been named a AAA Four Diamond Resort for 27 consecutive years and recognized as a “Silver Medal Golf Resort” by Golf Magazine and as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System by Audubon International. Its pristine environment also includes a real estate community that offers homes, homesites and villas directly fronting marshland, ocean, fairways and maritime forests.

The Ocean course takes you along the beach.

Long before eco-resorts became popular, Amelia Island Plantation created a master plan to protect its marshes, dunes and grasslands. A 40-foot-wide strip of natural vegetation borders all its waterways, creating wildlife corridors providing vital forage and cover. The Plantation’s three-plus miles of unspoiled beach and its vast tracts of coastal marsh and woodland remain its prime assets.

Active Living in a Natural Setting
Golf has long been a defining amenity at Amelia Island. Its 72 holes of championship golf are in their best condition ever, according to the community, from the Pete Dye-Bobby Weed courses at Amelia Links to the Tom Fazio-crafted Long Point course along with the recent addition of Tom Jackson’s Amelia River Golf Club. Oak Marsh, Ocean Links, Long Point and Amelia River challenge golfers with seven oceanfront holes and plenty of marsh-side play.

The Amelia Island Plantation Golf School, conducted by Ed Bowe, is headquartered at the prestigious Long Point Golf Course. Sheltered by ancient live oaks, the school overlooks its own private driving range and practice green and focuses on individual instruction for developmental and corrective techniques.

Racquet Park is home to the annual Bausch & Lomb Tennis Championships and has been recognized by Tennis magazine as one of the "Top 50 American Tennis Resorts." Its 23 Har-Tru, fast-dry clay courts are shaded beneath majestic live oaks in a beautiful Florida setting

Exercise and conditioning are the order of the day at the community’s health and fitness center. Treadmills, crosstrainers, stair climbers, upright and recumbent bikes, and strength machines as well as Cybex weight equipment and free weights provide every workout option. All cardio equipment is equipped with an 11-inch LCD monitor for TV entertainment with your workout.

Lodging & Activities
The ocean-view Amelia Inn & Beach Club, offering 249 luxury hotel rooms and a two-tiered pool deck, is a vital center of activity on the vast resort complex. The villas of Amelia provide guests with special features, room configurations and amenities.

Amelia Island Plantation’s amenities are extensive and ownership here includes the opportunity to join the Amelia Island Club and gain access to the resort amenities and the members-only oceanfront Clubhouse. Its activities—along with golf and fitness—include 23 clay tennis courts, 20 swimming pools, 10 restaurants, a full-service spa & salon, upscale shopping, biking and walking trails and miles of wide, uncrowded beaches.

Amelia Island Plantation’s very own Nature Center was established in 1997 and now has grown to incorporate several staff naturalists with backgrounds in biology, ecotourism, and environmental studies. The Beach Club is home to the community’s aquatics department and the outdoor heated pool. There are two large swimming pools, a kiddie pool and a hot tub as well.

Spa
Treat yourself at the Spa.

The Spa at Amelia Island Plantation rejuvenates its patrons with massage, relaxation techniques, body wraps and other sophisticated treatments, plus offers products and services to make you look your best.

If it’s a beach day, you can stop poolside for a quick bite at the Beach Club Grill. Golfers favor the 19th-hole fare at Amelia’s inviting Golf Shop Restaurant. When seafood is the choice, enjoy the charmingly casual Verandah Restaurant, featuring the day’s fresh catch.

About the Surrounding Area
Programs for all ages let visitors explore the natural beauty of a maritime forest and discover the species that call the forest their home. You can catch a glimpse of a painted bunting or great blue heron on a birding excursion or embark on a bike tour through salt marsh and woodlands.

The surrounding waters of Amelia Island Plantation offer both fresh and saltwater fishing along with sailing charters, day-cruises and sightseeing tours. Fish Amelia Island’s inlets on a four-passenger charter and test your luck against tarpon, shark and redfish.

Six-passenger trolling charters are also available giving anglers the opportunity for striking game fish such as kingfish, cobia, barracuda, amberjack and bonito on manmade and natural reefs offshore. Drift fishing these reefs also produces black sea bass, snapper and grouper.

For those looking to stay closer to home, Amelia Island Plantation’s Red Maple Lake and many brackish water lagoons are stocked with a variety of bream, bass, catfish and sunshine bass. Some of the saltier lagoons can also produce snook, tarpon and redfish.
