Description
The Carnegie Abbey Club is a private sporting estate covering 450-plus acres that overlook a sweep of lawns and fields extending to the blue waters of Narragansett Bay.

The hallmark of this club community is an acclaimed Scottish links
course designed by famous golf architect, Donald
Steel. Carnegie Abbey’s array of first-class amenities includes a tennis center, European spa, excellent sportfishing and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
The club also offers a 41-slip yacht club and marina–future
plans include an expanded equestrian center with indoor riding and boarding for 40 horses.

Donald Steel’s 6,675-yard golf course sweeps across bay-view slopes and is adorned by Scottish-style revetted sod bunkers. The layout takes full advantage of its seaside location, providing dramatic and ever-changing views of Narragansett Bay.
The Carnegie Abbey Club's Equestrian Center features stabling for 10 Club horses and ponies, a 100-by-200-foot outdoor ring of premier footing with show-quality jumps, and a grass ring.
In addition, seven miles of picturesque trails offer one of the best ways to experience the delights of the Club's beautiful and varied landscape. The new equestrian facility will feature 48-stalls, allowing more members to board their horses during their stay.

The entire family can enjoy the sport of tennis at the Carnegie Abbey Club. Professional instruction with our staff is available for all ages, and match play is arranged for men, women, and children throughout the season.
Play is on Har-Tru surface courts, with additional courts to be built at the Carnegie Beach Club. Carnegie Abbey pros coordinate the annual Newport Tennis Smash, running clinics for club members with Todd Martin, Stan Smith, Rod Laver and other professionals.

The European Spa at Carnegie Abbey offers a wide range of treatments for both men and women, blending the riches of natural active therapeutic plant extracts and essential oils with a variety of advanced scientific massage techniques.
Carnegie Abbey offers a tranquil environment,
indoors and out.
The Spa also provides excellent fitness and cardio studios, all overlooking Narragansett Bay; and members may enjoy a steam or sauna after a workout or treatment. During summer months, the pool is opened.
A dominant architectural feature of the club is The Tower at Carnegie Abbey. Rising 220 feet, this 22-story condominium tower with commanding views is built on the site of a former aluminum factory adjacent to The Carnegie Abbey Club grounds.

About the Area
The unspoiled woodlands and waters of Carnegie Abbey served as as hunting and fishing grounds for the Narragansett Indians for thousands of years. Narragansett Bay is second only to the Chesapeake in its abundance of shellfish and offers mineral wealth, as well.
The Narragansett tribe called this place Aquidneck, "Isle of Peace," and shared it with the osprey, songbirds, deer, waterfowl, and trout that still flourish here. In time, arriving English settlers discovered the same wealth of natural resources and temperate climate.
Wildlife abounds in and around the local waters. In the summer of 1778, as the Revolutionary War raged across the colonies, the terrain that now serves as the Club's golf course was the site of the Battle of Rhode Island. The battle is commemorated in holes dubbed Bloody Run, Patriots' Stand, and Hessians' Hole.
America's 19th-century transformation from pastoral frontier to industrial power brought Gilded Age splendor to Newport, but left the Isle of Peace undisturbed. A Benedictine monastery dating from 1900 remains owner and steward of this coastal preserve.

- Route 24 South merges into Route 114 South
- At the first set of lights on Route 114, take a right onto Cory's Lane
- Proceed 1/4 mile to the Carnegie Abbey entrance on the right
- Follow the shell road down to the Lookout
- Bear right past the tennis courts—a staff member will greet you
From Providence/Fall River:
- Follow I-195 East to Route 24 South to Newport
- Route 24 South merges into Route 114 South
- At the first set of lights on Route 114, take a right onto Cory's Lane
- Proceed 1/4 mile to the Carnegie Abbey entrance on the right
- Follow the shell road down to the Lookout
- Bear right past the tennis courts—a staff member will greet you
From Providence/Newport Bridge
- Coming off the Newport Bridge, bear left (Do NOT take the Scenic Newport exit)
- At the set of lights facing Jai Alai fronton, turn left onto Adm. Kalbfus Road
- Turn left at second set of lights onto West Main Road (Route 114 North)
- Continue on West Main Road approximately seven miles
- Pass King's Grant on your left and take the next left onto Cory's Lane
- Proceed 1/4 mile to the Carnegie Abbey entrance on the right
- Follow the shell road down to the Lookout
- Bear right past the tennis courts—a staff member will greet you
From New York and Connecticut:
- Follow I-95 North
- Take Exit 3A/Route 138 East and follow signs to Newport
- Coming off the Newport Bridge, bear left (Do NOT take the Scenic Newport exit)
- At the set of lights facing Jai Alai fronton, turn left onto Adm. Kalbfus Road
- Turn left at second set of lights onto West Main Road (Route 114 North)
- Continue on West Main Road approximately seven miles
