fireplace.
Nearby Marble Mountain offers every kind of skiing.
The mild winter temperatures, averaging -5 °C, guarantee optimum conditions for winter sports throughout the
season, which lasts from the beginning of December until April.
The directly adjacent ski area, Marble Mountain, is perfectly suited for classical winter sports - downhill
skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing.

Whales, Wilderness & Hiking
Wild coasts, colorful fishing villages, deep fjords and glorious
mountain massifs characterize the landscape. On this excursion into
nature, there is plenty of time to explore the area's beautiful national parks while hiking on the coasts and
mountains
From the Humber Valley Resort, you can take a helicopter trip to Gros Morne National
Park, a region that was declared a World Heritage Site by
UNESCO. Here you have the opportunity to visit the settlements of the
Vikings, the first immigrants to Newfoundland.

Kayaking is just one of many water adventures.
The 200 km-long East Coast Trail, which opened in September
2001, is worth a special mention: It is a dream for any hiker. A geyser, bird
sanctuaries, and a dramatic landscape lie along this path - and you can often spot whales and majestic icebergs here as well.

Something to write home about: an iceberg tour.
The many varieties of whales present a very special natural drama. In the summer months, they travel very near to the coastline. Particularly spectacular are the hump-backed whales, which can be seen jumping out of the water at very close range. Many types of whale-watching excursions are offered locally by expedition boat.
Spring is the ideal season to take an iceberg tour. The best time is between early June and late July. The glittering giants travel down from the Arctic along the northern coast of
Newfoundland, presenting observers with a one-of-a-kind natural spectacle.

About The Island of Newfoundland
Canada's Easternmost
Province
Climate
How to Get There
Canada's
Easternmost Province
Newfoundland is Canada's easternmost province. It extends from 46 to 51 degrees
latitude, it lies
directly in the Atlantic Ocean in the northeastern corner of North America and consists of two geo-graphically
distinct sections: Newfoundland and Labrador.
The island of Newfoundland, the southern and eastern section of the
province, is shaped like a large triangle 112,000 km2 in area.
The island lies at the mouth of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, at approximately the midpoint between the
center of North America and the coast of Western Europe. To the
north, the island of Newfoundland is separated from
the Canadian mainland by the Strait of Belle Isle; to the
south, by the wider Cabot Strait.
The province 's coastline extends for a distance of 17,000 km.
The picturesque variety of its scenery includes steep promontories, deep fjords containing countless tiny coves and offs-shore
islands. Newfoundland 's topography is rugged. Here, the glaciers of the Ice Age left deep impressions in the form
of lakes and fast-moving rivers. A large part of the island is
heavily forested with Norway spruce, balsam fir, birch, larch and poplar.
The unspoiled landscape of this wild and romantic Atlantic province is home to great numbers of
moose, caribou, beavers and black bears, providing the opportunity for
unique animal encounters in a breathtaking setting.
St. John 's, the historic center of trade and provincial capital,
is the largest city in the province with a population of
300,000. In North America, St.
John 's is considered a "boomtown." The discovery of and drilling for oil brought a large amount
of money and jobs to Newfoundland, and to St. John 's in
particular.
Computer specialists have also made Newfoundland 's
capital their home. More than 18,000 students pursuing degrees at
St. Johns 'Memorial University bring life to the city.
Colorful houses create a picturesque scene all around the bay and at the
harbor. In the evening, numerous restaurants and pubs offer a widely varied program of live music,
making St. John 's a worthwhile excursion destination. In
addition, various outings are available, including whale
watching, iceberg tours via boat or kayak, as well as the Terra
Nova National Park.

summer temperatures range between 22 and 26 °C.

the closest point to the European continent, at
a distance of just 3,700 km. Currently, direct flights are available from London to
