Four Seasons of Spectacular Landscapes & Activities

Humber Valley is a magical place seemingly evoked from ancient fables of hidden valleys and mystical seas. But this fertile environment of magnificent landscapes of ocean, mountains, valleys and streams is very real.

Golf
The Humber Valley course overlooks Deer Lake.

Every day your visit here will be filled with visions of spectacular glaciers, ancient homes of the Vikings and hunting expeditions for moose, bear, and caribou and thrilling rides down rivers and streams. Golf, hunting, skiing, dog sledding, hiking and whale watching are just the beginning of a long and exciting list of activities to do while at Humber Valley.

The Humber Valley Resort lies nestled in the midst of an unspoiled, breathtaking landscape on Newfoundland's west coast, in the long Humber Valley and directly on Deer Lake.

Wildlife is plentiful.

This undiscovered paradise is now open for the first time to international investors. You have the opportunity to secure an exclusive piece of real estate on a spacious plot of land in an excellent location and with a strong potential for appreciation, according to the resort's management team.

Access to the resort will be available only by a bridge spanning the Humber River, one of the world’s great Atlantic salmon rivers. Here is a unique opportunity to live in an unrivaled resort in an extraordinary and fascinating land.

Beach
Beaches are beautiful, sandy and expansive.

In the future, a clubhouse with a panoramic view of the Humber Valley, excellent restaurants and entertainment programs will be available to residents. It will serve as the basis for a fitness and wellness facility with a large indoor swimming pool, sauna and pro shop. In addition, guest accommodations are available at the Strawberry Hill Hotel, which also contains an outstanding restaurant.

Recreational Facilities
The resort offers the widest possible variety of recreational activities for every season of the year.

Golf
The resort was laid out around "Eagle's Perch," an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Canada's leading golf course architect, Doug Carrick. The front 9 opens this September, the back 9 is scheduled to open in summer 2004.  Plans are in the works to add another 18 holes.

The front 9 opens September '03.

At every point on the fairways, golfers will enjoy a breathtaking view of the landscape and the lake. The Humber Valley resort course will be one of the most unusual golf courses in the world. Any purchaser of a plot and chalet at Humber Valley Resort will automatically become a member of the golf club.

In keeping with the highest quality standards, the clubhouse, which will open next summer, will include restaurants, a panoramic view, wellness and fitness facilities, and a golfers 'pro shop. Anyone who needs more golf can visit the four other golf courses located throughout the Corner Brook region.

Clear waters invite watersports of all types.

Watersports
In the summer, Deer Lake and the Humber River both offer numerous opportunities to participate in water sports. Local guides are available to organize canoeing or kayaking tours. Glorious sailing areas in the fjord landscape extending all the way to Gros Morne National Park are a true sailor's dream

Winter Sports
Wedel down the slopes or enjoy the silence of the cross-country ski runs. Trudge with your snowshoes through the coastal landscapes and alpine winter forests. Drive by snow-mobile through pristine nature. Experience the winter wilderness on a dogsled. And then warm up at a log cabin fireplace.

Ski resort
Nearby Marble Mountain offers every kind of skiing.

The mild winter temperatures, averaging -5 °C, guarantee optimum conditions for winter sports throughout the season, which lasts from the beginning of December until April. The directly adjacent ski area, Marble Mountain, is perfectly suited for classical winter sports - downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing.

Skiing
Ski on one of Canada's best ski areas east of the Rockies.

The Marble Mountain winter resorts area is one of Canada 's best skiing areas east of the Rocky Mountains. With the new four-person lift leading up to the professional slopes, you can cover more altitude per day than anywhere else.

An especially popular sport among visitors to the Humber Valley Region is snowmobiling. The resort management rents out Ski-doos with the latest technology. You can also book local guides to help you explore the area.

There are a total of more than 1,200 km of snowmobile slopes in Humber Valley and the surrounding area. Organized "Ski-doo" excursions are available for touring the fantastic landscape. During breaks, you can sit in front of an open fire, drink a hot cup of tea, and try your hand at ice fishing on the frozen lakes.

Streams and rivers provide plenty of fishing opportunities.

Fishing
With an excess of 35,000 salmon, the Humber River offers some of the best fly-fishing opportunities worldwide. The salmon can weigh up to 20 pounds, sometimes reaching as much as 30 pounds.

The surrounding rivers and lakes also provide excellent fishing grounds for trout and other freshwater fish. The salmon-fishing season begins in August and ends in September. In addition, ice fishing in winter is a unique experience. Fishing licenses can be acquired through the resort management.

Whales, Wilderness & Hiking
Wild coasts, colorful fishing villages, deep fjords and glorious mountain massifs characterize the landscape. On this excursion into nature, there is plenty of time to explore the area's beautiful national parks while hiking on the coasts and mountains

From the Humber Valley Resort, you can take a helicopter trip to Gros Morne National Park, a region that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you have the opportunity to visit the settlements of the Vikings, the first immigrants to Newfoundland.

Kayaking
Kayaking is just one of many water adventures.

The 200 km-long East Coast Trail, which opened in September 2001, is worth a special mention: It is a dream for any hiker. A geyser, bird sanctuaries, and a dramatic landscape lie along this path - and you can often spot whales and majestic icebergs here as well.

Iceberg
Something to write home about: an iceberg tour.

The many varieties of whales present a very special natural drama. In the summer months, they travel very near to the coastline. Particularly spectacular are the hump-backed whales, which can be seen jumping out of the water at very close range. Many types of whale-watching excursions are offered locally by expedition boat.

Spring is the ideal season to take an iceberg tour. The best time is between early June and late July. The glittering giants travel down from the Arctic along the northern coast of Newfoundland, presenting observers with a one-of-a-kind natural spectacle.

Hunting season is from September 12 to December 12.

About The Island of Newfoundland
Canada's Easternmost Province
Climate
How to Get There

Canada's Easternmost Province
Newfoundland is Canada's easternmost province. It extends from 46 to 51 degrees latitude, it lies directly in the Atlantic Ocean in the northeastern corner of North America and consists of two geo-graphically distinct sections: Newfoundland and Labrador.

The island of Newfoundland, the southern and eastern section of the province, is shaped like a large triangle 112,000 km2 in area. The island lies at the mouth of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, at approximately the midpoint between the center of North America and the coast of Western Europe. To the north, the island of Newfoundland is separated from the Canadian mainland by the Strait of Belle Isle; to the south, by the wider Cabot Strait.

The province 's coastline extends for a distance of 17,000 km. The picturesque variety of its scenery includes steep promontories, deep fjords containing countless tiny coves and offs-shore islands. Newfoundland 's topography is rugged. Here, the glaciers of the Ice Age left deep impressions in the form of lakes and fast-moving rivers. A large part of the island is heavily forested with Norway spruce, balsam fir, birch, larch and poplar.

The unspoiled landscape of this wild and romantic Atlantic province is home to great numbers of moose, caribou, beavers and black bears, providing the opportunity for unique animal encounters in a breathtaking setting.

St. John 's, the historic center of trade and provincial capital, is the largest city in the province with a population of 300,000.  In North America, St. John 's is considered a "boomtown." The discovery of and drilling for oil brought a large amount of money and jobs to Newfoundland, and to St. John 's in particular.

Computer specialists have also made Newfoundland 's capital their home. More than 18,000 students pursuing degrees at St. Johns 'Memorial University bring life to the city. Colorful houses create a picturesque scene all around the bay and at the harbor. In the evening, numerous restaurants and pubs offer a widely varied program of live music, making St. John 's a worthwhile excursion destination. In addition, various outings are available, including whale watching, iceberg tours via boat or kayak, as well as the Terra Nova National Park.
