The Club at River Oaks
Sherman, Connecticut

In a refined rural setting where the Berkshires begin, this
amenity-rich
club community is dedicated to excellence in all
aspects of member service.
Description
The Club at River Oaks is a
gated residential golf community with 66 homesites on 350
secluded acres. It is located in a section of Connecticut long
known as a second-home haven for discerning urbanites.

The clubhouse has 25,000 square feet of amenities.
The community, founded in 2003, drew immediate praise for its
Robert McNeil-designed golf course and the gracious design of
its 26,000-square-foot clubhouse. Throughout its tastefully
landscaped grounds, The Club at River Oaks captures old New
England elegance.

The championship golf course offers entertaining views.
The gabled, yellow-clapboard offers both formal and informal
dining in the Grille Room, with banquet facilities available in
the Grand Ballroom. Meeting facilities are also available.
Other clubhouse amenities include a superbly outfitted exercise
room offering aerobic and weight training, as well as
specialized exercise classes; plus an outdoor heated pool, two
tennis courts and hiking trails.

A barn and silo seen from the course attest to the rural nature
of the area.
The golf course, a 6,837-yard parkland classic, plays to par-70
over rolling foothills acreage and toward the broad Housatonic
River. Hole variety is a hallmark of McNeil’s zig-zagging
layout, which features longer, more wide-open fairways with some
tighter and trickier holes.

The place to go after a round.

About the Area Connecticut’s northwest
corner is known for its relaxed charm, postcard scenery, and
array of low-pressure diversions. It is traversed by the famed
Appalachian Trail and well known for woodland hikes as well as
kayaking, canoeing and trout fishing on the Housatonic River.
Autumn foliage tours are a popular attraction, along with
stops in antique shops, galleries and small restaurants likely
to be staffed by institute-trained chefs. Fifteen of the
state’s agricultural fairs take place in Litchfield County,
adding to its autumnal festivity.

The club is surrounded by mountain views and lush foliage.
The nearby Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum has recently been
renovated and expanded, housing an impressive permanent
collection. Historical societies, a Carousel Museum, railway
exhibits, and colonial homes all add to the depth of this
region.
Two highly noted theatre companies, TheatreWorks New Milford
and the Sherman Playhouse, each draw an array of talented
actors, directors and set designers to create well-reviewed
dramas, comedies and one-act productions.
An assortment of nature centers, crafts exhibits and museum
complexes also dot the region. The Hunt Hill Farm, associated
with the Smithsonian Institution, is home to ten historic
buildings and 84 acres of farmland, as well as a gift store,
gallery and cooking school.
