Spring
Island
Spring Island, South
Carolina

| At Spring Island, coastal beauty and a variety of activities |
| coexist with environmental protection and
understanding. |
Description
Located midway between Beaufort and Hilton Head Island in the
heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry, Spring Island is a truly
beautiful and natural private community with breathtaking views.
This 3,000-acre island is bounded by the Colleton River and
Chechessee Creek, and offers only 400 homesites.
Spring Island’s policies and guidelines emphasize coexistence with its sensitive Lowcountry environment. The Spring
Island Trust was created to insure the
preservation of the 1,200 acre nature preserve, the timeless beauty, and the long
term maintenance of the natural habitat.

Spring Island has only 400 homesites on its 3,000 acres.
Perhaps, Jim Chaffin, one of the developers said it best, "Our philosophy was to
create a community within a nature preserve, not a nature preserve within a community." Spring
Island
enjoys the best of all worlds –the pleasure of ancient forests and pristine
waterways and a fulfilling active life culturally and recreationally.
In keeping with its naturalist theme, residents play golf on
a private championship course designed by Arnold Palmer. This
challenging and highly acclaimed course has the distinction of
being a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

The Arnold Palmer course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
The Nature Center, with three naturalists on staff, is a
community source of education for all ages. Members and their
families, and children from local schools who have been invited
for field trips, all share in learning more about the local
environment through this great facility.
A small island connected to the mainland by causeway, Spring
Island provides an effective escape, yet is only minutes from the attractions of
Hilton Head Island, historic Beaufort, SC, and Savannah, GA.
