World-Class Golf
The day I first visited Taberna in New Bern,
North Carolina, it just happened to be opening
day for the magnificent, new Jim Lipe-designed
championship course. Lipe is the Senior Design
Associate at Jack Nicklaus Design, a title which
he garnered upon completion of recent designs in
Mexico and South America.
Rolling
topography is a unique feature to the Taberna course.
As I sat on the viewing porch of the clubhouse
at days end, I spoke with smiling golfers
coming off the 18th green. Their grins
were wide, their praise was high and their
visions of the course fully mature had them
excited about the clubs future.

No. 15 at Taberna is a par-4, 385-yarder with water features.
A particularly nice feature of the course, as
well as the entire property, is its rolling
topography reminiscent of the Piedmont area. Area
visitors know that the land between I-95 and the
coast is flat, making Taberna a unique property
among its lesser endowed neighbors. With the
course now open, The Taberna Golf Club will
operate as a non-equity, private club facility.
Clubhouse & Top-Drawer Amenities
The clubhouse warrants accolades, too. It
features many design elements of an historic
castle in Bern, Switzerland. That means towering
ceilings, splendid multi-paned windows and a
richly wooded interior.
The nearby Trent River is perfect for boating and fishing.
In addition to golf, residents enjoy walking
trails and a canoe launch from which you can
paddle two miles to the Trent River, which then
converges with the Neuse River. The rivers
provide a great entrée to the area which is
popular among boating enthusiasts and fishermen
alike. Theres also a swimming pool and
tennis courts, plus beautiful coastal Atlantic
beaches just 35 minutes away.

A variety of real estate options are

amenities, the townhomes run along the golf
